WindStruc is a three-year project, where calculation models are developed and prepared for comparison with measurements on a physical model. ScandiNAOS AB, Chalmers University of Technology - Department of Mechanics and Maritime Sciences and Stena Rederi contribute with resources and the project is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency, together with the companies.
The project comprises three main parts:
- Design of a telescopic sail rig, that was developed and patented within the Effship project.
- Development of tools for dimension and optimization of sail structures, for ships based on Fluid-Structure-Interactions. Sail structures, as well as large wind turbines, require simultaneous analysis of both structure and fluid structural, since the deformation due to the surrounding is large enough to affect the flow itself, thus creating a coupled problem.
- Analysis and evaluation with ShipCLEAN models. A model for the telescopic rig is implemented in the ShipCLEAN model, and its performance is evaluated and compare with other sailing concepts.
